My Top 5 from the After Birth Care Kit

Amongst all the hormones, nappy changes, lack of sleep, sore boobs and after birth pains; where do we find the time to look after ourselves? We have to prioritise self-care; especially when we are taking care of another! When I was preparing for birth, I blogged about an After Birth Care Kit that I got to use during those few weeks after Elliott was born (Read it here: so here are my top 5 favourite products that I used post birth and why I loved them 😊

1. Milk Maid Mumma Reusable Breast Pads

I have used these EVERY DAY since my milk came in. I have one super leaky boob and I’ve had a couple of mishaps so I just keep these on rotation. In the After Birth care kit it has 2 packs; which is enough if you hand wash them every day; but if you like to just do a couple washes in a week then I’d definitely recommend getting more. The quality of these breast pads is incredible and they come in a heap of really cute designs!

2. Body Ice Woman Reusable Cooling/Heating Gel Pads – Breast & Perineal

These are AWESOME. The breast gel pads are amazing for when your milk comes in and your boobs are rock hard and SO SORE; and the perineal pad is great during the first few days after birth when everything downstairs is super swollen. They also cool in the freezer pretty quickly which is awesome if you just have the one set of them 😊

3. TOM Organic Maternity Pads

Unfortunately I couldn’t find these anywhere locally but they are AMAZING so I am so glad they were in this after birth care kit. They are wide and comfortable to use during post birth bleeding; I would definitely recommend these pads – the only thing is they don’t have wings so if you prefer pads with wings these may not be the best option for you.

4. Nipple Bliss Balm – Blissful Herbs

Another great product for that first week or so after birth when your nipples get a bit raw from breastfeeding! I used this during the first couple of weeks while my nipples were cracked and sore from feeding – I’d put it on after every feed, and now I use it every night after my shower. If you’re planning on breastfeeding, get yourself a good nipple balm to soothe your sore nips because it makes a massive difference and helps them heal way faster!

5. Skin Milk Udder Cream, Repairing Moisturiser – MooGoo

I don’t know what it is about being in the hospital but my skin just gets super dry every time I’m in there so having a moisturiser on hand was awesome. This moisturiser I absolutely loved because its really lightweight and doesn’t take a lot for it to soak in. Perfect for quick moisturising after a shower!
